Rise is the third studio album by Gabrielle, released in February 2000 on Go! Beat Records (Polydor/Universal). Following a five-year gap since her second album Gabrielle (1996), the album marked a triumphant commercial comeback for one of British soul's most distinctive voices. The title track Rise — built around a sample of Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door — entered the UK chart at No. 1 and became one of the biggest singles of 2000, spending five weeks at the top. The album itself reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and sold over 1.5 million copies in the UK alone, making it one of the best-selling British albums of the year. Produced by Ollie Jacobs and Tim Laws, the album showcases Gabrielle's warm, immediately recognisable contralto across 11 tracks of soul, R&B and contemporary pop, and remains one of the most beloved British soul albums of its era.
