Go West is the debut studio album by Go West — Peter Cox (vocals) and Richard Drummie (guitar and keyboards) — released in 1985 on Chrysalis Records and produced by Bob Sargeant. The London duo's debut reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for the Brit Award for Best Album in 1986, establishing them as one of the most melodically sophisticated and commercially effective British pop acts of the mid-1980s. We Close Our Eyes reached UK No. 5, Call Me reached UK No. 12, Don't Look Down reached UK No. 13 and Goodbye Girl reached UK No. 25. Cox's voice — warm, powerful and emotionally direct — and Drummie's melodically generous songwriting gave the duo a sound that was immediately distinctive in the mid-1980s British pop landscape: sophisticated without being cold, commercial without being formulaic, and consistently melodically rewarding across all nine tracks.
