Breaking Glass is the original motion picture soundtrack album by Hazel O'Connor, born in Coventry, Warwickshire, released in 1980 on A&M Records. The album accompanies the film of the same name, directed by Brian Gibson and starring O'Connor herself as Kate, a punk singer navigating the music industry — a role that drew directly on O'Connor's own experience and gave her performance an authenticity and emotional directness that made the film one of the most significant British music films of the era. The album reached No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned two major UK hit singles. Eighth Day reached UK No. 5 and Will You? reached UK No. 8. The 12-track album captures the energy and urgency of the post-punk new wave scene with complete conviction, combining O'Connor's raw, powerful vocal with arrangements that draw on punk, new wave, reggae and jazz influences in equal measure.
