Dare is the third studio album by The Human League — Philip Oakey (vocals), Susanne Sulley and Joanne Catherall (vocals) — from Sheffield, released in October 1981 on Virgin Records and produced by Martin Rushent. The album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. Don't You Want Me reached UK No. 1 and US No. 1 (1981) — the biggest-selling UK single of 1981 and a recording that defined the sound of early-1980s synth-pop. Love Action (I Believe in Love) reached UK No. 3 (1981), Open Your Heart reached UK No. 6 (1981) and The Sound of the Crowd reached UK No. 12 (1981). The 10-track album demonstrates the band's ability to combine futuristic electronic production with unforgettable pop melodies and the distinctive vocal interplay between Oakey, Sulley and Catherall, giving them a position as one of the most commercially dominant and culturally significant acts of the synth-pop era.
