Kick is the sixth studio album by INXS — Michael Hutchence (vocals), Andrew Farriss (keyboards and guitar), Tim Farriss (guitar), Jon Farriss (drums), Kirk Pengilly (guitar and saxophone) and Garry Gary Beers (bass) — from Sydney, Australia, released in October 1987 on WEA/Atlantic Records. The album reached No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200, transforming INXS into international superstars. Need You Tonight reached US No. 1 (1988) and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group — the band's only US No. 1 single. Devil Inside reached US No. 2 (1988), New Sensation reached US No. 3 (1988) and Never Tear Us Apart reached US No. 7 (1988). The 12-track album demonstrates INXS's ability to blend rock, funk, pop and dance influences with Hutchence's charismatic vocal, giving them a position as one of the most commercially dominant and critically acclaimed acts of the late 1980s.
