Fur is the second solo studio album by Jane Wiedlin, born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and co-founder and rhythm guitarist of The Go-Go's — alongside Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine and Gina Schock — released in 1988 on I.R.S. Records. The album's lead single Rush Hour reached UK No. 12 and US No. 9, making it Wiedlin's biggest solo hit and demonstrating her ability to construct a hook of immediate commercial appeal outside the Go-Go's context. The 10-track album showcases Wiedlin's melodic instincts, playful lyrical personality and ability to combine new wave energy with a melodic pop directness that gives every track an immediate and sustained commercial appeal. Song of the Factory — at nearly five minutes the album's most expansive and musically ambitious track — demonstrates a more reflective and emotionally complex side of Wiedlin's songwriting beyond the uptempo singles.
