Spirit is the debut studio album by Leona Lewis, released in November 2007 on Syco Music following her victory on the third series of The X Factor in 2006. Produced by a team including Ryan Tedder, Dallas Austin and Walter Afanasieff, the album was a phenomenon of a scale that few debut albums achieve — it sold over 7 million copies worldwide, reached No. 1 in the UK, US, Australia and across Europe, and spawned one of the biggest singles of the decade in Bleeding Love, which topped the charts in over 35 countries. Lewis's voice — a powerful, technically accomplished soprano with an extraordinary upper register — is the album's defining quality, and the production team assembled by Simon Cowell's Syco label gave her material that matched her ambition. The album also features her celebrated cover of Snow Patrol's Run, which became one of the most downloaded singles of 2008.
