Album Introduction
New Kids on the Block’s Merry, Merry Christmas blends seasonal standards with original festive pop, bringing the group’s harmonies and dance-oriented sound to a Christmas collection. Released in 1989 on CBS, the album features Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood.
Produced and arranged principally by Maurice Starr, the record moves between reflective songs, upbeat festive numbers and familiar favourites such as “White Christmas” and “The Christmas Song”. “This One’s for the Children” opens the album with a message of kindness, while “Funky, Funky, Xmas” adds a playful rap-led contrast.
This copy includes the pictured printed inner sleeve with lyrics and production credits, making it a nostalgic addition to a festive vinyl collection or a New Kids on the Block shelf.
Stand-Out Tracks
“This One’s for the Children”
A gentle, message-led opening that puts the vocals at the centre of the arrangement. Its emphasis on generosity and care gives the album a reflective introduction.
“I’ll Be Missing You Come Christmas (A Letter to Santa)”
A romantic seasonal song that pairs Christmas imagery with a story of missing someone. The shared lead vocals add variety to its sentimental pop approach.
“Merry, Merry Christmas”
The title track brings a brighter, celebratory mood to the first side. Its festive greetings and group-pop feel make it a natural centrepiece for the collection.
“The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)”
This familiar standard offers a quieter contrast to the album’s original pop material. Jordan Knight takes the lead, bringing the focus back to melody and a traditional Christmas atmosphere.
“Funky, Funky, Xmas”
A lively change of pace built around rap performances and playful festive references. It provides the clearest link to the group’s rhythm-driven pop style.
