Circle of One is the second studio album by Oleta Adams, released in 1990 on Fontana Records and produced by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith of Tears for Fears. Orzabal and Smith had discovered Adams performing in a hotel bar in Kansas City and invited her to sing on Woman in Chains from their album The Seeds of Love (1989); the response to that performance led directly to this solo album deal. The album sold over 2 million copies worldwide and reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. Its centrepiece, Get Here — written by Brenda Russell and originally recorded in 1988 — became one of the most emotionally resonant songs of the early 1990s when it was adopted as an unofficial anthem by the families of American soldiers deployed during the Gulf War in 1991, reaching No. 4 in the UK. The album closes with a nearly seven-minute reading of Bernard Ighner's Everything Must Change, one of the most celebrated songs in the adult contemporary repertoire. Adams's voice — rooted in gospel, trained in jazz and capable of extraordinary power and delicacy in equal measure — gives the album a vocal authority that few of her contemporaries could match.

- Get Here — One of the most emotionally resonant songs of the early 1990s; Brenda Russell's lyric of longing and devotion, delivered by Adams with complete conviction and vulnerability, became an unofficial anthem for the families of Gulf War soldiers in 1991 and gave the song a cultural significance far beyond its original pop context.
