The Cocktail Original Motion Picture Soundtrack accompanies the 1988 film directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Tom Cruise as Brian Flanagan, a charismatic New York bartender. The 10-track compilation is one of the most commercially successful and musically eclectic soundtracks of the decade, featuring two US No. 1 singles. Kokomo by The Beach Boys — written by Mike Love, John Phillips, Terry Melcher and Scott McKenzie — reached US No. 1 and UK No. 25, becoming the Beach Boys' last American chart-topper. Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin reached US No. 1 and UK No. 2, winning the Grammy Award for Record of the Year (1989) and becoming the first a cappella recording to top the American singles chart. The album also features John Cougar Mellencamp's cover of Buddy Holly's Rave On, Ry Cooder's cover of Elvis Presley's All Shook Up, and Little Richard's Tutti Frutti — giving the soundtrack a breadth that spans 1950s rock 'n' roll, 1980s pop and tropical-influenced beach rock.
