Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? is the debut studio album by Paloma Faith (Paloma Faith Blomfield), released in September 2009 on Epic Records. Born in Stoke Newington, north London, and trained at the London Studio Centre, Faith arrived with one of the most fully formed and visually distinctive artistic identities of any British debut act of the decade — her vintage-inspired aesthetic, drawing on 1940s and 1950s Hollywood glamour, was as immediately recognisable as her voice. The album sold over 500,000 copies in the UK, reached No. 9 on the UK Albums Chart and established Faith as one of the most original and commercially viable new voices in British soul-pop. Her voice — rich, theatrical and with a natural vibrato that draws on the classic female vocal tradition from Billie Holiday through Dusty Springfield — gives the album a warmth and personality that distinguishes it from the more polished and anonymous end of the contemporary pop market. The album's 10 tracks range from the driving, brass-inflected pop of Stone Cold Sober to the atmospheric ballad My Legs Are Weak and the wry, sardonic Romance Is Dead.
