The Works is the eleventh studio album by Queen — Freddie Mercury (vocals and piano), Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) and John Deacon (bass) — originally released in February 1984 on EMI Records and produced by Queen and Reinhold Mack. This pressing is a reissue of the original album. The album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned four UK Top 15 singles. Radio Ga Ga — written by Roger Taylor — reached UK No. 2 and US No. 16. I Want to Break Free — written by John Deacon and accompanied by the band's famous cross-dressing video — reached UK No. 3. It's a Hard Life reached UK No. 6 and Hammer to Fall reached UK No. 13. The album closes with Is This the World We Created...? — a spare acoustic duet written by Mercury and May that reached UK No. 31 and stands as one of the most quietly powerful and emotionally direct recordings in the Queen catalogue. The nine-track album demonstrates the full range of the band's mid-1980s sound, from the synthesiser-driven arena rock of Radio Ga Ga and Machines (Or 'Back to Humans') to the melodic directness of I Want to Break Free and the epic sweep of Keep Passing the Open Windows.

- Is This the World We Created...? — A spare acoustic duet written by Mercury and May that closes the album with a lyric of humanitarian concern and gives the record one of its most quietly powerful and emotionally direct moments; Mercury's vocal is completely unguarded and the simplicity of the arrangement gives the song an intimacy that stands in complete contrast to the album's more expansive tracks.
