Republica is the debut studio album by Republica, released in 1996 on Deconstruction Records. The band — fronted by Saffron (Samantha Sprackling), with Tim Dorney on keyboards and Johnny Male on guitar — emerged from the mid-1990s British alternative scene with a sound that fused the guitar energy of Britpop with the electronic production of the contemporary dance and techno scene, creating a hybrid that was immediately distinctive and commercially effective. The album reached No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned three UK Top 20 singles. Ready to Go — the album's opening track and defining moment — became one of the most widely used songs in sports broadcasting history, adopted as a theme by WWE Raw and used in countless sporting montages and television programmes worldwide; it also appeared on the soundtrack to Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996), one of the most culturally significant British films of the decade. Saffron's voice — powerful, abrasive and completely distinctive — gives the album an energy and personality that sets it apart from the more polished end of the mid-1990s British pop-rock scene.
