Heavy Nova is the seventh studio album by Robert Palmer, born in Batley, Yorkshire, released in 1988 on Island Records. The album reached No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 13 on the Billboard 200. Following the extraordinary success of Riptide (1985) — which featured the global hit Addicted to Love (US No. 1) — Heavy Nova continued Palmer's commercially focused blend of rock, pop, soul and funk. Simply Irresistible reached US No. 2 and UK No. 5 (1988) and won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, giving Palmer one of the most immediately recognisable and commercially dominant singles of the decade. She Makes My Day reached UK No. 28 (1988) and Early in the Morning reached UK No. 59 (1988). The 10-track album demonstrates Palmer's ability to combine polished, radio-friendly production with a vocal of extraordinary sophistication and commercial directness, giving him a distinctive position in the late-1980s pop-rock landscape.
