Sacred Heart is the debut studio album by Shakespears Sister — Siobhan Fahey (vocals, formerly of Bananarama) and Marcella Detroit (vocals and guitar) — released in August 1989 on London Records. The album reached No. 9 on the UK Albums Chart. Fahey had left Bananarama — one of the most commercially dominant British pop groups of the 1980s — in 1988 to form Shakespears Sister, and Sacred Heart represented a deliberate departure from the pure pop of her former band toward a darker, more atmospheric and more rock-influenced sound. You're History reached UK No. 7 (1989), Break My Heart (You Really) reached UK No. 14 (1989) and Run Silent reached UK No. 50 (1989). The 12-track album demonstrates the duo's ability to combine pop melody with atmospheric production and a darker, more alternative aesthetic, giving them a distinctive position in the late-1980s British pop landscape.
