This double pack brings together the first two films in the Hunger Games franchise, based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling trilogy. The Hunger Games (2012), directed by Gary Ross, introduces Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), a teenager from the impoverished District 12 who volunteers to take her sister's place in the annual televised death match staged by the authoritarian Capitol. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), directed by Francis Lawrence, picks up with Katniss and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) on their Victory Tour, as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) manoeuvres to crush the rebellion their survival has ignited — culminating in the devastating Quarter Quell. Together the two films grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide and established Jennifer Lawrence as one of the defining screen presences of the decade. Catching Fire in particular is widely regarded as the strongest film in the franchise, with Francis Lawrence's direction giving the material a darker, more politically sophisticated edge.
