The Invisible Band is the third studio album by Travis, released in May 2001 on Independiente Records and produced by Nigel Godrich — the producer and engineer best known for his long-term collaboration with Radiohead, whose work on OK Computer and Kid A had made him one of the most sought-after producers in British rock. The Glasgow quartet — Fran Healy, Andy Dunlop, Dougie Payne and Neil Primrose — had broken through with The Man Who (1999), and this third album consolidated their position as one of the most commercially successful British indie acts of the era. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Godrich's production gives the album a warmth and sonic clarity that suits Travis's melodic, emotionally direct songwriting perfectly, and the result is one of the most cohesive and satisfying British indie albums of the early 2000s.
